Dr Matthew Wilkinson joined our practice in 2020, relocating from Townsville. Dr Wilkinson brings over 10 years experience in hand, shoulder, knee and hip surgery.
Mr Michael Pritchard has been practicing since 2007, specialising in joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery and sports injuries. He is currently working at Calvary Hospital, Lenah Valley in Tasmania.
Mr Pritchard graduated from the University of Tasmania obtaining his MBBS (Hons), in 1998 and completed his Orthopaedic Training at The Royal Melbourne and Royal Hobart Hospitals, specialising in Joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery and sports injuries.
He gained the inaugural postgraduate fellowship in Hip and Shoulder Arthroscopy in 2007 with Mr John O’Donnell, working closely with many elite athletes.
In 2008, he trained in the techniques of DAA (Direct Anterior Approach) Minimally Invasive Surgery for hip replacement, which provides an alternative approach in suitable patients. He has since performed over 2,900 procedures and has seen remarkable results.
Mr Pritchard maintains a keen interest in technological developments relating to all aspects of surgical intervention and prosthetic designs. He has been a Robotic accredited surgeon since 2017 and currently uses Robotic technology for implantation of joint replacements where there is a clear benefit.
He works as a consultant to various companies globally in the further development of technological advancements and prosthetic design.
Mr Pritchard has continued to improve advanced arthroscopic techniques to diagnose and treat disorders of the hip and has developed imaging techniques used in complex high performance revision situations.
He maintains a keen interest in many sporting endeavours and understands the goals of elite athletes. He enjoys motor sport, sailing, road cycling and fishing.
Mr Pritchard has travelled overseas to further enhance the techniques of DAA Hip Replacement. He has set up a Visiting Surgeons Program & Surgical Skills Lab in conjunction with Calvary Healthcare Hobart and the Menzies Institute for Medical Research in Hobart.
These courses allow surgeons to view Mr Pritchard in the operating suites and participate in the Skills Lab.
Mr Pritchard has presented nationally and internationally on these subjects and has published papers in peer reviewed journals.
